Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical role of personal vehicles in modern transportation and their significant contribution to climate change and pollution. It highlights the urgent need for sustainable transportation solutions, particularly in emerging markets like India, which is the fourth largest emitter of CO2 globally. The study focuses on urban Punjab, examining how socio-demographic factors such as age, marital status, employment type, and household size influence the intention to purchase electric vehicles. Through a meticulous survey and statistical analysis, including one-way ANOVA and binary logit modeling, the chapter identifies key demographic groups more likely to adopt EVs. These insights are crucial for developing targeted policies and strategies to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, thereby mitigating the environmental impacts of traditional road transport. The findings offer a roadmap for stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of their initiatives, ensuring a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation future.
