Abstract

The article investigates how daily positive experiences, ranging from simple pleasures to meaningful interactions, contribute to overall well-being and life satisfaction. It highlights significant disparities in the frequency and enjoyment of these experiences across different sociodemographic groups, including socioeconomic status, race, and sexual orientation. The research builds on previous studies to examine how these disparities may underlie known differences in psychological health and well-being. Using data from the Midlife Development in the United States (MIDUS) Study, the article presents compelling evidence that positive life experiences play a crucial role in mediating the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and various forms of psychological well-being, including life satisfaction, positive and negative affect, depression, and anxiety. The findings suggest that addressing these disparities could be key to improving psychological health across diverse populations. The longitudinal analysis provides unique insights into how positive experiences influence well-being over time, making this study a significant contribution to the field.
