Abstract

This chapter delves into the historical development of soil-steel structure design, with a focus on the 1979 Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code (OHBDC). It begins by defining soil-steel structures and their evolution from early terms like 'flexible pipes' to modern designations. The chapter then explores the OHBDC's role in standardizing definitions and design provisions, including force analysis and construction procedures.
