Abstract

The article investigates the effects of high casting speeds on the solidification structure and segregation in billet continuous casting for alloyed steel. It focuses on the 20Mn2 steel, examining the impact of casting speed on dendrite morphology, secondary dendrite arm spacing, deflection angle of columnar dendrites, and spot segregation. The study reveals that higher casting speeds lead to coarser dendrites, increased spot segregation, and changes in the alignment of the equiaxed zone. The authors propose countermeasures to improve the quality of the billet, including optimizing superheat, enhancing electromagnetic stirring, and intensifying secondary cooling. The article provides valuable insights into the mechanisms behind the observed phenomena and offers practical recommendations for enhancing the quality of continuously cast billets at high speeds.
