Abstract

The article addresses the challenges of data transfer in optical backbone networks, highlighting the suitability of optical communication for high-capacity data transfer. It discusses the evolution of Elastic Optical Networks (EON) and the necessity of flexible optical networks to meet diverse traffic profiles. The core focus is on the spectrum allocation problem, classified into Routing Spectrum Modulation Allocation (RMSA) and Routing and Spectrum Allocation (RSA). The article introduces a Memetic Algorithm to optimize both routing and spectrum allocation in Multi-domain Elastic Optic Networks (MD-EON), demonstrating superior performance in reducing blocking probability and computational time compared to existing methods like Fragmentation Measure Metric Aware RSA (FMMA-RSA). The proposed algorithm is validated through simulations using NSFNET and US Backbone topologies, showcasing its effectiveness in minimizing losses and bandwidth blocking probability.
