Abstract

The chapter delves into the advantages of using polypropylene (PP) fibers in cementitious composites, such as shrinkage control and enhanced impact resistance. It focuses on the challenges posed by unmodified PP fibers, particularly their low wettability and poor interaction with cement matrices. The study investigates the potential of recycled PP (rPP) fibers, which contain functional groups introduced during the recycling process, to improve compatibility with cement matrices. The chapter presents detailed analyses of rheological properties, molecular weight distributions, surface characteristics, and thermal properties of rPP fibers. It also discusses the feasibility of melt-spinning processes using rPP and the potential of blending rPP with virgin PP to achieve stable spinning processes. The findings highlight the promise of using rPP in fiber-reinforced concrete, emphasizing the importance of a narrow molecular weight distribution for successful spinning.
