Spirituality, Psychological Wellbeing, Quality of Life and Self-Efficacy in Type 2 Diabetes: A Cross-Sectional Study

Spirituality is integral part of our life which refers to a person’s quest for ultimate meaning in life and reflect the beliefs and practices supporting personal resources of strength and hope. There is growing interest in spirituality as a coping mechanism in lifelong disorders like diabetes that is linked to improve various psychosocial variables among the sufferers. The current cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relationship between daily spiritual experiences and self-efficacy, quality of life, and psychological well-being among patients with type 2 diabetes. We assessed a sample of 100 type 2 diabetic patients from Jaipur, Rajasthan, using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale, the Quality of Life instrument for Indian diabetes patients, Ryff’s Scale of Psychological Well-Being, and the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale. The findings demonstrated a significant positive correlation between daily spiritual experiences and quality of life, particularly in areas such as role limitation, treatment satisfaction, and mental health. These initial results highlight the impact of daily spiritual experiences and beliefs on various psychosocial factors for diabetes patients, emphasizing the importance of including spiritual components in diabetes management programs.
