Four years ago, Audi also launched the Q5 SUV model as a Sportback. Now the new edition is coming.
Audi Q5 Sportback
Audi AG
Audi is expanding its model series with the Q5 Sportback, a sporty coupé variant. Compared to its predecessor, the design of the new Audi Q5 Sportback is tighter. The wide singleframe sits high and is flanked by vertical, functional air curtains. The headlights are heavily filed. In the area below the singleframe sits a large air intake with the sensor system. The rear of the Q5 Sportback has a clear-cut design and is visually extended to the rear to achieve a sloping roofline from the B-pillar. The Q5 Sportback is available in advanced and S line trim levels. In addition, the SQ5 Sportback has a unique exterior.
The second generation of the Q5 Sportback offers up to 515 liters (18.4 cu ft) of luggage capacity; the SQ5 Sportback offers up to 470 liters (16.7 cu ft). With the rear seat folded down, the storage space for the Q5 Sportback increases to up to 1,415 liters (49.7 cu ft) and 1,388 liters (50.1 cu ft) for the SQ5 Sportback. The Q5 Sportback has a towing capacity of up to 2,400 kg. The interior features the Audi MMI panoramic display and the MMI passenger display. The soft wrap extends from the doors across the entire cockpit to the center console.
Equipped With MHEV-plus Technology
The new Audi Q5 Sportback is built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), a platform architecture for conventionally powered vehicles with longitudinally mounted internal combustion engines and is equipped with MHEV-plus technology from the market launch. The new MHEV-plus system with 48-V electrical system is designed to support the combustion engine and reduce CO2 emissions. It also allows for limited all-electric maneuvering and parking.
The new powertrain generator (TSG) generates an additional torque of up to 230 Nm and up to 18 kW (24 hp) of power. The 48-volt system also allows for the use of an electrically driven air conditioning compressor.
The lithium-ion battery used in vehicles with MHEV plus is based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry and has a storage capacity of 1.7 kWh. The belt-driven starter generator (BSG) has the main tasks of starting the engine and supplying electrical energy for the battery. The TSG is designed to enable electric driving, relieve the burden on the combustion engine and help to reduce fuel consumption. When decelerating, the TSG feeds energy back into the battery with an output of up to 25 kW. The premium combustion platform is designed to allow gradual electrification in the form of mild hybrids. Later in the lifecycle of the new Audi Q5 Sportback, plug-in hybrids with a large battery and external charging capability will also follow.
Three Engines at Market Launch
In Europe, the Audi Q5 Sportback will be launched with three engine variants, with further drive versions to follow. All variants will be equipped at market launch with MHEV-plus technology, which can provide up to 18 kW (24 hp) of additional power for a short time. All models also use the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The entry-level engine is the 2.0 TFSI with 150 kW (204 PS), 340 Nm of maximum torque and front-wheel drive. Quattro all-wheel drive is available as an option.
The Audi Q5 Sportback is available with the 2.0 TDI as the EA288 evo generation. It delivers 150 kW (204 hp) and 400 Nm (295.0 lb-ft) of torque and is offered exclusively with quattro drive. Audi is offering the Audi SQ5 Sportback as the top model in the series at market launch. The V6 TFSI with a displacement of 3.0 liters produces 270 kW (367 metric horsepower) and has a maximum torque of 550 Nm (410.3 lb-ft).
Market Introduction and Prices
The new Q5 Sportback and the SQ5 Sportback will be available to order from December 2024. Prices start at € 54,800 and € 85,400 for the S model, respectively.
