The Ford Mustang GTD celebrated its European premiere at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The limited racing version of the pony car is also available to order in Germany.

Ford Mustang GTD

The Ford Mustang first came onto the market in 1964 and is now in its seventh generation. The pony car is now also available in Europe in the high-performance GTD version with carbon fiber bodywork, which is a road-legal version of the GT3 racing car. During the race at Le Mans, Ford presented the Mustang GTD with a new performance package. This includes a revised front section with air deflectors, active aerodynamics and magnesium wheels. The associated lightweight package dispenses with most of the insulating materials.

The interior features sports seats from Recaro. The new steering wheel has control buttons on the spokes for the suspension settings and exhaust mode. Behind it are two titanium paddle shifters, which are produced using 3D printing. In front of the rotary switch for gear selection are buttons for activating the track apps and for the front axle lift. The driver looks at the familiar 12.4" instrument cluster, while the touchscreen is 13.2" in size.

Ford Mustang GTD with Racing Technology

The supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivers at least 588 kW (800 hp). Power transmission is provided by an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which is positioned in front of the rear axle in a transaxle design. Six driving modes are available for the driver. The suspension technology on the rear axle can also be viewed while driving via a polycarbonate window. The internal suspension offers horizontally arranged dampers and springs based on the pushrod principle. The adaptive ASV dampers come from the racing specialist Multimatic. Each damper is combined with two coil springs. In "Track" driving mode, a hydraulic system compresses one of the two springs, which almost doubles the spring rate and reduces the ground clearance of the sports car by almost 40 mm.

In Germany, the price for the Mustang GTD base model starts at 359,900 euros. Between June 13 and July 19, 2024, interested parties can register online on a special website. The Mustang GTD is only expected to be produced in 2025 and 2026.
