Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical role of Universal Design (UD) in creating more inclusive and accessible urban spaces, aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 11. It examines the FVG ACCESSIBILE project in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, which serves as a model for integrating UD principles into urban planning and policy. The initiative, a collaboration between regional authorities and universities, aims to enhance accessibility and promote a cultural shift towards inclusive design. The chapter discusses the challenges and opportunities in implementing UD, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the dissemination of knowledge. It also explores the broader implications for sustainable urban development, emphasizing the need for continuous education and innovation to achieve truly inclusive cities. The FVG ACCESSIBILE project demonstrates how targeted initiatives can drive significant progress towards the UN's 2030 Agenda, offering valuable lessons for other regions and countries.
