Abstract

The chapter delves into the stability assessment of resonant linear permanent magnetic generators (LPMGs) powered by free piston engines (FPEs). It begins with an introduction highlighting the importance of sustainable development and the role of free piston engines in efficient power generation. The physical model integrates thermodynamic, mechanical vibration, and electromagnetism concepts, with a focus on the coupling between the FPE and LPMG. The thermodynamic model includes the scavenging process and heat transfer, while the electrical model uses subdomain modeling to estimate magnetic field distribution. The results, presented through stability maps and simulations, show the influence of air-fuel ratio, intake pressure, and spring stiffness on system stability. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the importance of energy production in combustion for system stability and the role of control strategies in maintaining optimal performance.
