Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical role of state-space modeling and observer-based fault detection in ensuring the reliability of buck DC-DC converters. It explores the dynamic behavior of these converters, focusing on both soft and hard faults, and introduces a state observer designed to generate residuals for fault detection. The study highlights the impact of capacitor ESR on converter performance and presents detailed simulations of various fault scenarios. The research culminates in a model-based approach that effectively identifies faults, enhancing the operational safety and efficiency of buck converters.
