Abstract

The chapter explores the critical issue of corrosion in main oil pipelines, focusing on the linear parts that are particularly susceptible to damage. It begins by emphasizing the importance of statistical processing of corrosion data for monitoring and controlling corrosion, which is essential for maintaining the safety and reliability of oil and gas equipment. The text delves into the various causes and factors that contribute to corrosion, including electrochemical processes, chemical reactions, mechanical damage, and microbiological influences. It presents a detailed analysis of corrosion data from the Lysychansk–Kremenchuk oil pipeline, using statistical methods to predict the spread of corrosion and identify key factors such as pipe material, environmental conditions, and operational stresses. The chapter introduces probabilistic models, including lognormal and Weibull distributions, to describe the depth and length of corrosion damage, providing a robust framework for assessing and managing corrosion risks. It also reviews existing research and literature, highlighting the contributions of various scientists in the field of oil pipeline corrosion. The chapter concludes by discussing the practical implications of these findings for improving the reliability and longevity of oil pipelines, emphasizing the need for integrated corrosion protection systems and advanced diagnostic techniques. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights into the mechanisms of corrosion and the effective strategies for mitigating its impact, making it an essential read for anyone involved in the maintenance and safety of oil pipeline infrastructure.
