Statistical Estimation Method for Retrieving Sea Surface Temperatures

In processing remote sensing sea surface temperature data derived from meteorological satellites, the correction for atmospheric attenuation is essential. Until now, the multichannel method in the infrared window has been usually applied. However it is necessary to use more than one channel in the infrared window in this method. The purpose of this study is to provide a statistical estimation method for correction of the atmospheric attenuation. In order to check the accuracy of this method, the simulated computation for comparison with the multi-channel method and a processing test using AVHRR practical data have been accomplished.
