Abstract

The study delves into the complex interplay between affordance perception and motor response inhibition, employing a modified stop-signal task. It examines how the affordances of objects can act as distractors, influencing response times and inhibition processes. The findings suggest that affordances can both facilitate and hinder response inhibition, depending on their compatibility with the required response. The research highlights the intricate mechanisms by which our visuomotor system selects and executes appropriate actions while minimizing distractions from non-target objects. The study's innovative approach offers valuable insights into the cognitive processes underlying motor control and response inhibition, contributing to a deeper understanding of human behavior and cognitive function.
