Abstract

This chapter delves into the strategies for evaluating bioflocculants produced by heavy metal-tolerant microorganisms, focusing on their application in removing heavy metals and dyes from wastewater. It begins by discussing the isolation and screening of heavy metal-tolerant bacteria, followed by the determination of flocculating efficiency using the kaolin suspension method. The chapter then explores various characterization techniques, including chemical analysis, GC-MS, SEM-EDX, FTIR, XPS, and gel-permeation chromatography, to understand the properties and mechanisms of bioflocculants.
