Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical role of geosynthetic reinforcement in enhancing the performance and durability of pavement structures. It focuses on the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) as a key indicator of subgrade soil strength and explores the use of geotextiles to improve weak or unsuitable soil subgrades. The study compares the effectiveness of jute and polypropylene geotextiles through direct shear tests and CBR tests, revealing significant differences in their impact on soil shear strength and stability. The findings emphasize the potential of jute textile as a superior reinforcement material, offering notable improvements in soil strength and CBR values. The research also underscores the importance of selecting the appropriate reinforcement material to optimize the stability and longevity of soil structures. By presenting a comprehensive analysis of the experimental results and their implications, the chapter offers valuable insights for professionals seeking to enhance the performance of geotextile-reinforced subgrades.
