Abstract

The study focuses on the growth and characterization of GaN and AlN/GaN nanowires using plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (PA-MBE). The research highlights the high crystalline quality of the nanowires, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED), and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM). The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the nanowires at room temperature and low temperature reveal distinct emission peaks, with the AlN/GaN nanowires exhibiting additional low-energy peaks attributed to AlN. These findings suggest potential applications in nano-photonic devices, particularly due to the enhanced optical properties and defect emission bands observed at room temperature. The article also discusses the influence of surface effects and lattice mismatch on the optical properties of the nanowires, providing valuable insights for further research and development in this field.
