Abstract

This paper presents an experimental study done on the structural behaviour of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) beam specimens. Longitudinally reinforced beams with and without transverse reinforcement were tested under two-point bending, at four replacement levels of recycled aggregates (30%, 50%, 70% and 100%). RAC beam specimens exhibited up to 30% higher ultimate deflections and up to 40% lower initial stiffness; however, ultimate load-carrying capacities did not vary significantly. Lastly, different code formulations were used to predict ultimate load-carrying capacities of all beam specimens and were found to be adequate in this regard.
