Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the structural reliability of aircraft landing gear drag beams, which are susceptible to corrosion. It highlights the challenges in estimating thickness reduction due to corrosion using radiographic methods and introduces a new model for thickness estimation. The model accounts for uncertainties in radiographic intensity and corrosion products, providing a more accurate assessment of structural integrity. The study also includes a sensitivity analysis of model parameters and applies Monte Carlo simulation to quantify uncertainties. The authors demonstrate the application of this model to a real-world case study of a corroded landing gear drag beam, illustrating its practical value in aircraft maintenance. The research concludes with a discussion on the limitations and future work, emphasizing the need to consider the impact of hydrogen on structural integrity.
