This volume describes a great number of techniques for confining, defining, analysing, etc. aliases in object-oriented programming, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The missing chapter is the underlying theory that is able to explain them all. In this vision statement, we state the need for a theory of structured aliasing, and claim that the problem with aliasing lies not in the aliases themselves, but the low-level language constructs used to create them.
