Abstract

This study delves into the perceptions of recent architecture graduates in Kerala regarding the essential attributes and skills required for professional success. Through a comprehensive survey, the research identifies the most important graduate attributes as perceived by students, with a particular emphasis on design, ecological knowledge, social equity, technical knowledge, and professional practice. The findings reveal a significant gap between the importance of these attributes and the confidence levels of students, highlighting the need for curriculum reform. The study also underscores the widening gap between university education and professional practice, suggesting that collaborative efforts between institutions and practices could help bridge this divide. Additionally, the research identifies several competencies not included in the survey but deemed crucial by students, such as professional communication skills, business and financial management skills, and entrepreneurship skills. The study concludes with practical recommendations for improving the quality of architecture education, ensuring that graduates are better prepared to meet the challenges of the architectural field.
