Abstract

This chapter investigates the profound effects of Triton X, a nonionic surfactant, on the textural properties of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based electrospun nanofibers. By systematically varying the concentration of Triton X in PVA solutions, the study reveals significant enhancements in nanofiber morphology, porosity, and hydrophobicity. The addition of Triton X is shown to reduce bead formation, a critical factor in achieving high-quality nanofibers, and to increase crystallite size, which enhances the structural integrity of the nanofibers. The study also explores the role of surface tension and rheological behavior in the electrospinning process, providing a detailed analysis of how Triton X modifies these properties. Furthermore, the chapter presents a thorough experimental methodology, including the synthesis of precursors, fabrication of nanofibers, and characterization techniques such as SEM, XRD, and FTIR. The results offer valuable insights into the interplay between surfactant concentration and nanofiber properties, paving the way for the rational design and fabrication of electrospun nanofibers tailored to specific applications. The findings contribute to the broader understanding of polymer modification techniques and highlight the potential for harnessing the synergy between surfactant additives and electrospinning processes to create advanced materials with enhanced performance and applicability.
