Abstract

This chapter delves into the study of different shear kinematic assumptions and their effects on the coupled axial-flexure-shear sectional analysis in shear-deformable beam elements. The research focuses on three main topics: the comparison of fixed-pattern shear kinematic assumptions (uniform and parabolic) and the inner-fibre equilibrium method, the coupled sectional analysis method using a fibre model with normal and shear strain kinematic assumptions, and the constitutive models for concrete and steel. The study concludes that the parabolic shear strain assumption closely aligns with the inner-fibre equilibrium method, while the uniform shear strain assumption significantly overestimates the strength and stiffness of the response. The chapter provides a detailed overview of the sectional analysis procedure, the constitutive models used, and the comparative study of the shear force-shear strain response and strain-stress distributions. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights into the behavior of reinforced concrete sections under different shear kinematic assumptions.
