Abstract

Results are presented for a series of cold simulation experiments of solidification of a steel ingot weighing 235 tons of different configuration (scale 1:25). Nine model ingots are studied. Ingot parameters H/D in models are varied within limits from 1 to 2 and taper from 2 to 18% with steps of 0.5 and 8%, respectively. Detailed description of the experimental procedure is provided in Part I. The effect of geometry on solid phase growth dynamics is studied in vertical and horizontal directions.
