Study on Corrosion Behavior of Q235 Steel in a Simulated Marine Tidal Environment

Abstract

In this paper, a tide simulation device was used to study the marine tidal corrosion of Q235 steel with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ultra-depth 3D microscopy, and in situ electrochemical measurements. The results showed that the corrosion rates of the steel in the full immersion (FI) zone were low and fluctuated slightly, while the corrosion rates of the steel in the other zones were relatively high and increased from the 192nd h. The order of corrosion rates from high to low was middle tide (MT) zone, high tide (HT) zone, low tide (LT) zone, and FI zone. Uniform corrosion dominated the corrosion process of the steel in the FI zone, while corrosion pits were generated on the steel surface in the HT, MT, and LT zones during the experiment. The corrosion mechanism of the steel in marine tidal zones was discussed in the paper.
