Abstract

The study focuses on the critical role of Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) in the construction of extended reach wells. It introduces a sophisticated model for calculating ECD during various operations, such as drilling, tripping, casing running, cementing, and gravel packing. The model accounts for factors like annular pressure loss, fluid velocity, and cuttings bed height, enabling precise predictions of ECD. The research highlights the importance of controlling ECD to prevent wellbore instability and collapse. A case study demonstrates the application of the ECD model, showcasing how it can be used to optimize operations and ensure safety in extended reach wells. The article concludes with practical recommendations for controlling ECD during different phases of well construction, providing valuable insights for industry professionals.
