Abstract

The study investigates an innovative nickel extraction method from ultramafic nickel sulfide concentrates, focusing on the effects of nickel content on extraction efficiency and alloy grade. The method involves a two-stage thermal treatment under a slightly reducing atmosphere, which facilitates the extraction of nickel into a ferronickel alloy. The research demonstrates that higher nickel grades in concentrates lead to increased nickel extraction and alloy grade. Additionally, the study highlights the challenges posed by silicate minerals, which act as physical barriers and consume metallic iron, affecting the overall efficiency of the process. The findings provide valuable insights into the sustainable and efficient recovery of nickel from low-grade ultramafic ores.
