Study on Structural Behavior of Modified Hollow Core Precast Concrete Slab

Hollow-core precast concrete slabs are used in modular building construction to minimize volume of concrete and to reduce the weight. However, the presence of voids in hollow-core concrete slabs (HCS) makes the slab prone to premature failure. Composite Reinforcement. System (CRS) is developed to support the voids in precast slab which increases the load carrying capacity. In the present study, three different void shapes such as circle, ellipse and oval of HCS sections were analysed to find out its effects. Among these, oval shaped void HCS was selected for the further study. Parametric studies are conducted by varying width to depth ratio of oval shape HCS by varying slab depth as 175 mm, 200 mm, 225 mm and 250 mm to understand the change in behaviour of HCS. With selected depth of slab, oval shaped FRP tubes are adopted as composite reinforcement system for strengthening of HCS. The bending behaviour of HCS with CRS and its various arrangements was investigated by conducting non-linear finite element analysis. The addition of CRS increases 97.5% load carrying capacity with reduction of 11.7% weight compared to solid slab. Static and dynamic behaviour analysis were conducted using ANSYS 2021 R2 to gain insight understanding about behaviour of internal components within the slab.
