Abstract

The study investigates the blocking effect of aerogel felt thickness on thermal runaway propagation in lithium-ion batteries, crucial for civil aviation safety. Experiments were conducted with 18,650 commercial lithium-ion batteries at 30% and 100% state of charge, using aerogel felt barriers of varying thicknesses. Key findings include delayed thermal runaway onset times, increased blocking effectiveness with thicker barriers, and significant differences in heat release rates and gas concentrations between batteries with different state of charge. The research provides valuable data for enhancing the safety of lithium-ion battery transportation.
