Abstract

The study examines the thermal safety of overcharged lithium-ion batteries, focusing on NCM, 32,650, and LiFePO4 batteries. It analyzes the impact of different charging rates on battery safety, introducing a new 'overcharge degree' index to evaluate battery safety under various overcharge conditions. The research highlights the critical parameters affecting battery safety during overcharge and provides valuable data for early warning systems. The experimental results show that the higher the overcharge rate, the earlier the thermal runaway, and the greater the battery damage. The study concludes that the 'overcharge degree' index can effectively predict battery safety, with higher degrees indicating greater risk.
