Abstract

The article presents an innovative approach to enhancing solar cell performance through the use of picosecond laser ablation with a top-hat beam. It addresses the challenges posed by traditional nanosecond lasers, which introduce defects and reduce efficiency. The study focuses on optimizing the parameters for picosecond laser ablation to achieve homogeneous removal of dielectric stacks on polished rear surfaces, minimizing laser-induced damage and improving solar cell performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the optimized picosecond laser ablation with a top-hat beam significantly reduces damage and increases solar cell efficiency by 0.11% absolute for PERC cells. The article also discusses the characterization of the ablation quality and the impact of laser-induced damage on solar cell performance, providing valuable insights for further improvements in solar cell technology.
