Abstract

The article addresses the complex challenge of infrared and visible image fusion, highlighting the need to retain both high-resolution details and the distinctiveness of infrared targets. Traditional methods like multi-scale decomposition and sparse representation have limitations in balancing these requirements. The proposed method introduces a superpixel-based adaptive region-growing technique, which effectively identifies and preserves salient regions in infrared images. Additionally, the method incorporates a texture detail fusion algorithm based on visible image brightness analysis, ensuring that valuable texture details are retained while suppressing noise. The results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art techniques in both subjective and quantitative evaluations, making it a significant advancement in the field of image fusion.
