In this paper, a design alternative for guaranteeing various kinds of QoS constraints in an emerging optical access network technology, Ethernet-Passive Optical Network (E-PON), is studied. New applications delivered by E-PON will require various and superposed QoS, for example streaming video requires superposed delay and jiiter QoS. Since traditional fair queuing does not have much of interest in the superposed QoS, it is not able to fully support advent applications. A scheduling algorithm called delay jitter loss adaptive scheduler (DJLAS) is proposed to guarantee tunable any kinds of superposed QoS constraints (delay, jitter, and loss rate) for applications like video, voice, and data over E-PON. The DJLAS is devised to guarantee QoS especially in short-term period because QoS guarantee of long-term period does not appeal to users.
