Abstract

This chapter delves into the sustainable recycling of waste tires as geomaterials to combat climate change and mitigate natural disasters. It discusses the cascaded recycling process, which significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to thermal recycling. The authors present extensive research on the use of tire chips and Gravel-Tire Chips Mixture (GTCM) in geotechnical applications, highlighting their excellent permeability and compressibility characteristics. The chapter also introduces a innovative technique using GTCM drains to prevent liquefaction-induced damage during earthquakes, showcasing its effectiveness through large-scale triaxial compression and permeability tests. The research underscores the potential of tire-derived geomaterials in reducing environmental impact and enhancing infrastructure resilience.
