Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical task of selecting sustainable construction contractors for school projects, emphasizing the need for a robust, multi-criteria decision-making approach. It introduces the EDAS (Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution) method as a solution to the complexities and biases inherent in traditional selection processes. The research outlines a comprehensive set of evaluation criteria, categorized into competency, technical capability, safety and environment, warranty and reputation, and price. The EDAS method is applied to a case study involving three contractor candidates for a school construction project in Ho Chi Minh City. The method's steps, including calculating the average solution, positive and negative distances from the average, and appraisal scores, are meticulously detailed. The results reveal that contractor candidate A1 achieves the highest appraisal score, making it the most suitable choice. The chapter concludes by highlighting the practicality and robustness of the EDAS methodology in promoting fair, accurate, and transparent contractor selection, ultimately supporting sustainable and high-quality project delivery.
