Abstract

The article delves into the innovative use of phytic acid and polyethyleneimine for creating sustainable flame-retardant flax fabrics through a layer-by-layer surface functionalization method. The research demonstrates significant improvements in thermal stability and flame retardancy, with the treated fabrics showing enhanced char formation and reduced heat release rates. Additionally, the study examines the mechanical properties and abrasion resistance of the treated fabrics, revealing improved performance compared to untreated samples. The work underscores the potential of biobased compounds in developing eco-friendly textiles that meet both safety and environmental requirements.
