Abstract

This chapter delves into the development of sustainable lightweight interlocking blocks using recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and rice husk ash (RHA), addressing the pressing issue of construction waste management in Malaysia. The study comprises two phases: the first involves testing materials like sand, RCA, cement, and RHA using X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), while the second phase assesses foamed concrete mixtures through various tests, including compressive strength, water absorption, heat absorption, and sound absorption. The research highlights the potential of RCA and RHA to create durable, lightweight blocks suitable for non-load-bearing walls, contributing to the sustainability of natural resources. The study also explores the applicability of these blocks in the Industrialised Building System (IBS) construction method, offering an alternative solution for the construction industry in Malaysia. The findings demonstrate the viability of using construction and agricultural waste to produce sustainable building materials, aligning with global sustainability goals and the Circular Economy model.
