Abstract

The rapid advancement of wireless communication, IoT, and AI has paved the way for the metaverse, a virtual society that promises immersive experiences and new forms of interaction. This article focuses on the potential of the metaverse in healthcare, highlighting its ability to revolutionize patient care through virtual-physical fusion. However, the metaverse also presents challenges, particularly in terms of data security, standardization, and interoperability. The authors propose a swarm learning-based framework to address these issues, ensuring secure and fair model sharing among distributed nodes in the metaverse. This framework leverages blockchain technology and decentralized autonomous organizations to maintain data privacy, enhance model accuracy, and incentivize participation. The authors demonstrate the effectiveness of their approach through experiments on two real-world healthcare datasets, showcasing the potential of their framework to improve healthcare services in the metaverse. This article offers a compelling vision of how the metaverse can transform healthcare, while also providing practical solutions to the challenges it presents.
