Abstract

The article discusses the development of a hybrid symmetrical and asymmetrical source configured multilevel inverter (PMLIT) designed to reduce the number of semiconductor switches, capacitors, and DC sources. The PMLIT can operate in both symmetrical and asymmetrical source configurations, generating 7-, 9-, and 11-level output voltages from a single cell. It features a simple switching scheme, self-balancing capacitors, and lower total blocking voltage, making it a cost-effective and modular alternative to conventional cascaded H-bridge MLIs. The article provides a detailed analysis of the working principle, capacity balancing, and the extension of the PMLIT, along with verified results and comparative analysis. The novel features and advantages of the PMLIT are highlighted, showcasing its potential for various high-power DC-AC conversion applications.
