Abstract

The article introduces SymSwarm, a groundbreaking two-staged decentralized algorithm designed to form symmetrical patterns in swarms of mobile robots. It addresses the limitations of existing centralized control systems and proposes a novel approach that combines bio-inspired state models and decentralized communication to achieve robust and efficient pattern formation. The algorithm is evaluated through extensive simulations, demonstrating its effectiveness in various scenarios, including those with obstacles. By emphasizing decentralized control and symmetry, SymSwarm offers a promising solution for real-world applications in robotics and swarm intelligence.
