Abstract

This study delves into the synergistic effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and compost on drought tolerance in quinoa varieties under field conditions. The research evaluates how the combined and single application of these biofertilizers can mitigate the negative effects of drought stress on growth, yield, physiological and biochemical parameters of two quinoa varieties, Titicaca and Puno. The study also assesses soil physico-chemical characteristics after post-harvest. Key findings include the significant improvement in plant growth, photosynthetic efficiency, and stress tolerance when AMF and compost are applied together. The study highlights the superior performance of the Titicaca variety in terms of biomass accumulation and drought tolerance compared to Puno. Additionally, the research provides insights into the mechanisms by which AMF and compost enhance plant resilience under drought conditions, including improved nutrient uptake, antioxidant activity, and soil fertility. The principal component analysis (PCA) further elucidates the contributions of various parameters to plant performance under different water regimes. Overall, the study underscores the potential of biofertilizers as sustainable solutions for enhancing quinoa cultivation in arid and semi-arid regions.
