Abstract

The article addresses the pressing environmental concerns associated with the widespread use of non-biodegradable plastics in agriculture, particularly their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and microplastic pollution. It emphasizes the need for biodegradable materials to mitigate these issues and focuses on the synthesis and properties of 1,4-cyclohexanediol modified PBAT copolyesters as a promising solution. The study details the synthesis process via melt polycondensation, incorporating 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (14 CHDO) to enhance the thermal stability, mechanical properties, and hydrophilicity of the copolyesters. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the structural modifications and their effects on the material's performance, including increased tensile strength, improved thermal stability, and better processability. It also discusses the potential of these copolyesters to degrade more efficiently, addressing the limitations of traditional biodegradable plastics. The findings offer valuable insights into the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials for agricultural applications, highlighting the significance of molecular structure design in achieving superior material properties.
