Abstract

The article delves into the synthesis of new phosphorus-containing oligoester methacrylates (FOEMs) using aliphatic and aromatic spacers, addressing the critical issue of high flammability in polymeric materials. It explores the advantages and limitations of both additive and reactive flame retardants, emphasizing the superior performance of phosphorus-based flame retardants (P-FRs) due to their environmental sustainability and effective fire-retardant properties. The study presents the synthesis of three series of FOEMs, each incorporating different spacers to improve thermal stability and mechanical properties. Detailed characterization methods, including FTIR, NMR, GC/MS, and STA, are employed to confirm the structures of the newly synthesized FOEMs. The article also investigates the curing processes of these FOEMs using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dielectric analysis (DEA), revealing the impact of spacers on the polymerization kinetics. The findings highlight the enhanced impact strength, thermal stability, and char residue of the cured polymers, making these FOEMs promising candidates for applications requiring high flame retardancy and mechanical robustness.
