Synthesis of novel hydrazide-substituted phthalonitrile resin: Effect of keto-enol tautomerism on structure–property relationship

Abstract

The article delves into the synthesis of a novel hydrazide-substituted phthalonitrile resin, focusing on the impact of keto-enol tautomerism on its structure-property relationship. The study introduces a hydrazide bond into the monomeric structure to enhance processing parameters and thermal stability. The synthesis process is meticulously described, along with characterization data, thermal properties, and rheological evaluations. The results reveal that the resin exists predominantly in the enol form, leading to a high melting point and restricted N–N bond rotation. The resin shows excellent thermal stability and a narrow processing window, making it suitable for specific applications but not for vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding. The article concludes with a discussion on the potential of this resin in high-temperature applications, highlighting its superior thermal properties and char yield.
