Abstract

The article investigates the synthesis and self-assembly behavior of poly(styrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine)) (PS-P2VP) block copolymers modified by polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) groups. The study focuses on how different POSS derivatives, acting as non-covalent force donors, interact with PS-P2VP to influence its phase behavior. Through a series of experimental techniques, including small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermal analysis, the researchers demonstrate how POSS modifications can enhance the ordering and stability of the lamellar structures in PS-P2VP. The article highlights the significant role of non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonding and halogen bonding, in modulating the self-assembly process. The findings reveal that BPOSS-Cl, in particular, exhibits the strongest interaction, leading to highly ordered structures and improved thermal properties. This research provides a deep understanding of the mechanisms behind the self-assembly of block copolymers and offers new strategies for designing advanced materials with tailored properties.
