Abstract

The article delves into the significance of phytosterols, particularly stigmasterol (Stg), in human health and their potential as bioactive compounds in pharmaceutical and biomedicinal research. It critically evaluates existing methods for Stg isolation, such as solvent crystallization and high-performance liquid chromatography, which often involve harmful chemicals and lengthy preparation steps. The study introduces a groundbreaking approach using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) tailored for selective Stg isolation from soybean oil. The synthesis of monosize molecularly imprinted solid phase extraction polymers (Stg-Mip-MSPEs) is detailed, showcasing their high adsorption capacities and selectivity. The polymers' performance is rigorously tested through adsorption studies, selectivity experiments, and real-sample applications, demonstrating their efficacy in isolating Stg from complex media. The article also highlights the polymers' reusability and stability, making them a promising tool for phytosterol extraction from plant sources. The findings underscore the potential of this method to advance research and applications in the field of bioactive compounds, offering a more efficient and environmentally friendly approach to phytosterol isolation.
