The Taiwanese love scooters. In fact, scooters represent a primary mode of transportation for nearly two-thirds of the island's residents. Their popularity is one reason why passenger-vehicle sales have stagnated for years, and new electric cars have been met with little enthusiasm. And yet, Taiwan is home to a number of world-class suppliers of electronics and electrical components on an increasingly lucrative global electric-vehicle market.
