Tanzania occupies a special position in the debate about aid effectiveness. In the mid-1970s the country was becoming increasingly popular for the imaginative pursuit of egalitarian growth policies. Shortly thereafter, it became a graveyard for aid project ideals. Now, the country is seen as one of the success stories for policy reform in Africa.
