Mobility and independence are what define freedom and quality of life. At the same time, however, mobility crucially underpins prosperity, growth, and ultimately jobs. As politicians, we need to resolve the question of how we will move around in future. Imperative here is balancing climate protection, affordability and competitiveness, because the mobility of the future needs to minimize carbon dioxide and the financial burden on the public, and must strengthen the mobility economy. What does not help are blinkers, prejudices and proscriptions such as those repeatedly demonstrated in the diesel debate. That gets us nowhere. Instead, we need creative drive, innovative ideas and - by all means critical - openness towards every type of technology and all modes of transportation. …
